developers of these programs. The images use in this sofware are taken from RedHat Linux 9 distribution.
If there are errors showing in the video processing terminal during video conversions
eg.segmentation faults or illegel instructions etc , than you must compile and build Mplayer and / or
Mjpeg tools directly from the source package (do not forget to enable the GUI switch when configuring
the Mplayer build eg." ./configure --enable-gui ")
Spend more time on getting these applications , especially Mplayer and mencoder , run correctly in the
first place , even if you dump FileGarden , there are so many other good applications out there which
are using and require them as helper tools ...

Important : The help file will be updated quite often.
As of version FileGarden1.2.4A ,
Every minor updates and patches will be release by replacing this package without
replacing the version number. There will be new version releases when there are major
features upgrade or major bug fixes. So if you encounter any bugs and errors in the
program , then you should try to download only this package and install again. You
don't need to download the runtime package.
Check the release date for this package on the download page.
.
note : Try to follow the file directory structure for first time installation :
Step 1. Login as root,Uncompress "filegarden1.2.xx.tar.gz" and "borland-runtime-lib.tar.gz"
into " /opt " under the root directory .Note that you need not install
"borland-runtime-lib.tar.gz" if you FileGarden was already installed on youe machine before,
and you HAVE NOT DELETED these directories :
/opt/
- redstone/
- FileGarden/
- mainlib/
FileGarden was design in a way that you can install a copy over an older/previous copy.
You need only delete the directory " ~/redstone " if you want to.
If you already have a working XFG installed, then rename or delete file
" [your HOME]/redstone/FileGarden/xfg.conf " and go directly to step 8.
Step 2. Put line this into /etc/ld.so.conf
/opt/redstone/mainlib
Step 3. Type ldconfig in your terminal and press enter
Step 4. Put line this into your login startup script
example : ~/.bashrc or ~/.bash_profile
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/redstone/mainlib
Step 5. Create a symlink from " /opt/redstone/FileGarden/filegarden-install "
to " /usr/bin/filegarden-install "
eg. ln -s /opt/redstone/FileGarden/filegarden-install /usr/bin/
Step 6. Logout your linux session( ** not X session ** ) and login again
Step 7. Login as normal user , type " filegarden-install "
in your terminal and press enter. This will install the program into
your home directory. eg. " ~/redstone/FileGarden "
Watch for errors in your terminal and send me an email if problems
with libraries not found , runtime error , segmentation faults etc
Step 8. Execute the command " ~/redstone/FileGarden/FileGarden " from your terminal.
The above procedure should work , email me if you encounter any
problem.
NOTE :
A very good place to start with for Kylix problems ...
1.2.1.Working with file listing on the editor
If XFG show an error dialog box stating " Error loading files ",then you should make
sure the " File list " mode check-box at the lower left corner of the main window is
correctly checked or unchecked.
Most the menu item commands work with the " File list " mode check-box checked, which
means the content of the currently active editor contains file listing, even the file
listing was paseted or embeded by doubled-clicking of file manager file item onto an
active editor which already contained text previously opened.XFG will always try to
parse the whole content and search for any occurence of file listing ( the file name
with full path must be on a whole new line by itself ) and forward the found file
listing to the calling menu item command. There is advantage and disadvantage for this
feature,so be careful and know what you are doing before you execute any menu item
command.
1.2.2.Files Copy , Move , Delete and Create symbolic links speed button commands
These file commands are done by the following source and destination relations :
[file command] from [file listing on the editor] to [active file manager directory]
We set the [active file manager directory] by clicking on either left-hand side icon
view container or the right-hand side detail file listing container.
1.2.3.The recognition of file mimes type from file listing on the editor
XFG will not try to recognise the file mimes type from file listing on the editor.
Every file is a file forward to the menu item command. So if you forward a postscript
file to " ImageMagick " menu item command for file conversion to JEPG format,it listerns
to you. That is a sound feature.
But if you forward a postscript file to " Ghostscript " menu item command for file
conversion to postscript format,it listerns to you. That is not a well thought of feature.
1.2.4.Commands that might cause us some regrets :
Speed buttons for " Delete " , " Copy " , " Move " and " Create symbolic link "
Be very careful with these command, you must know what you are doing.
1.3.1.Embed file listing onto the editor from the file manager
Make sure the " Toggle file list mode " speed button, the third one from the upper
right-hand corner of the file manager is toggled. If " File list mode " is enabled,
the button image will show an opened folder. If " File list mode " is not enabled,
the button image will show a closed folder. At the same time the " File list " mode
check-box at the lower left-hand conrner of the main window corresponds to the toggle
states of the " Toggle file list mode " speed button.
note : If " File list " mode is off,the content of the file item will then
be paseted onto the editor or appended if the editor is not empty.
1.3.2.Embed directory listing onto the editor from the file manager
By double-clicking on file item within the file manager,if it is a file, full path plus
the file name will be embed onto the editor. If it is a directory, the directory will
just be expanded. To embed directory listing, click on the " To editor " speed button on
the upper left-hend corner of the file manager with the " Toggle file list mode "
speed button set to " File list " mode.
1.3.3.Try to expand a directory from the icon view hang XFG
Trying to expand a directory with more then 500 but less than 1000 files count is slow
from the icon view.If the files count count is more than 1000,then the directory will be
expanded onto the faster(but still slow) detail file listing which is on the right-hand side
of the file manager.
1.5.1.How to invoke Thumbnail veiwer
By cklicking on the top or bottom " View image thumbnails " speed button from the file
manager.
1.5.2.Selecting and unselecting images
Single-click to select single or multiple images
Double-click to unselect all selected images.
1.5.3.Viewing images on the image viewer
Right-click on any image from the thumbnail viewer to view the selected image on the
image viewer.
1.5.4.Files Copy , Move , Delete and Create symbolic links speed button commands
These file commands are done by the following source and destination relations :
[file command] from [image thumbnail viewer] to [active file manager directory]
We set the [active file manager directory] by clicking on either left-hand side icon
view container or the right-hand side detail file listing container.
1.6.1.Using the image viewer
Left-click to go forward to the next image
Right-click to go backward to the previous image
1.7.1.Playing VCD
You can access the menuitem from the main program menu or the file manager popup menu
Main menu --> Video Tools --> Play VCD

the order of locating cdrom is :
/dev/cdrom
/dev/cdrom1
/dev/cdrom2
/dev/cdrom3
/dev/scd0

1.9.2.Locations of LaTeX formating configuration files
Email me , alred2@lycos.com , problems,suggestion,corrections of mistakes.
XFG uses configurations files to perform formating and insertion of TeX tag into the editor.
For the time being, they are very simple. They can be edited for your more advance LaTeX work.
The directory location of these files are in " /opt/redstone/mainlib/resource "
If you edit these files, please save your configurations into
" [your home directory]/redstone/resource " with exactly the same filename.
XFG will try to search in your home directory for configuration file first,if not found
,then search in XFG base directory.
/opt/redstone/mainlib/resource/XFGMemoInsertTeXFormat = For formating editor text /selection into TeX
/opt/redstone/mainlib/resource/XFGMemoInsertTeXFormatScan = Use by XFGMemoInsertTeXFormat to scan for illegal characters
/opt/redstone/mainlib/resource/XFGMemoInsertTeXTag = For insertion of TeX tags use by the menuitems
/opt/redstone/mainlib/resource/XFGMemoInsertTeXLeftFlowPictureTag = TeX for left side text flow picture
/opt/redstone/mainlib/resource/XFGMemoInsertTeXCenterPictureTag = TeX for insertion of picture
/opt/redstone/mainlib/resource/XFGMemoInsertTeXRightFlowPictureTag = TeX for right side text flow picture
The file XFGMemoInsertTeXTag really works together with xfg.conf (the main XFG configuration)
When you click on an menuitem, xfg.conf will search for reactions from XFGMemoInsertTeXTag to insert
the LaTeX tag into the editor.
XFG parameter values are enclosed between %xxxxx%
They can be replaced but not those that start with %XFGMemoInsert... , %PROC%...
The response of XFG if required values not found are undefined.
